At the Church of St Andrew there is evidence of its 10th Century foundation. However, much of the present building dates from the 13th and 14th Century.

The church has mediaeval wall paintings and Romanesque chancel arch. A myth claims that the Gunpowder Plot conspirators met in a small room above the porch; the only basis for this is that the manor was part of the estate of Sir Everard Digby. Following his execution, the family was deprived of its land in Stoke Dry.

According to Coxe, a rector once imprisoned a witch in the parvis above the porch. He left her to starve to death, and as a consequence she now haunts it.
